Zarin Home: Design Made Simple

Why NYC Interior Designers Have Shopped at Zarin Fabrics for 90 Years

Why NYC Interior Designers Have Shopped at Zarin Fabrics for 90 Years

There are few places in New York City where a seasoned interior designer and a first-time homeowner can walk in, touch 10,000 rolls of fabric, and leave with exactly what they need. Zarin Fabrics, at 72 Allen Street on the Lower East Side, has been that place for over eight decades.

It Starts With the Selection

Most fabric retailers carry a curated range. Zarin carries everything. Velvet, chenille, linen, silk blends, performance fabrics, drapery weights, upholstery grades, if a project calls for it, it's likely on the floor. That depth is what keeps designers coming back rather than piecing together orders from five different suppliers.

For clients who aren't sure, swatches are available for just $1.50. It's a small thing, but it reflects how Zarin operates, practically, and with the customer's actual project in mind.

The Lower East Side, for 90 Years

Zarin opened on Allen Street when the Lower East Side was still a dense immigrant market district. The neighborhood has changed dramatically since then, galleries, restaurants, design studios have all moved in but Zarin has remained, and the design community has grown up around it.

That history matters. When a store survives eight decades in New York City, it's not by accident. It's because architects, stagers, upholsterers, and homeowners keep choosing it over newer, shinier alternatives.

In-Person in Manhattan, or Shipped Nationwide

Walking the showroom is an experience worth making time for bolts of fabric stacked floor to ceiling, textures you can only understand by touch. But Zarin's reach now extends well beyond Manhattan. Orders ship across the country, and the same 80-year curation applies whether you're furnishing a Tribeca loft or refreshing a living room in another state entirely.

Beyond the Fabric

For clients in the New York area, Zarin also handles custom upholstery — reupholstering existing pieces or building furniture from the frame up. It's the kind of full-service offering that turns a one-time purchase into an ongoing relationship, which is exactly how most of Zarin's longest-standing clients describe it.
